My Car Doors Were Locked, My Seat Belt Was Locked – Ghanaian Priest Recounts How Rosary Saved Him From Burning Car
A Ghanaian Catholic Priest, Rev. Fr. David Obeng Paintsil, has shared a chilling account of how he miraculously escaped death when his car caught fire, an incident he attributes to the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Fr. Paintsil, who is the founder of the Global Rosary Network, gave the reflection on Wednesday, October 14, during the month of the Holy Rosary.
Recounting the incident which happened about 10 years ago, he said he was returning to his Parish after leading a three-day retreat in another Diocese in Ghana at the invitation of a fellow Priest.
He said before embarking on the journey, he prayed the Holy Rosary and asked the Blessed Virgin Mary to accompany him.
After driving for over four hours and just about 15 minutes to his destination, he heard a strange noise from the car and decided to stop to check what was wrong.
“I needed to stop and check what was happening. As soon as I parked the car and put off the engine, all that I saw was a huge fire. Boom! My car had caught fire,” he narrated.
According to him, he tried to escape but realized he was trapped as the doors and seat belt had locked.
“It was so intense. The doors of the car, as I tried to open them, were locked. My seat belt was locked. And I knew that was the end of my life,” he said.
In that moment, Fr. Paintsil said he turned to the passenger seat and called on Our Lady, whom he had invited to journey with him, to save him.
He said miraculously, before he could finish his prayer, the car doors opened and his seat belt released, allowing him to jump out before the vehicle was completely engulfed by fire.
The fire destroyed the car and everything inside, including his bag.
“Here I am. I have my life. And I said, well, God still has a mission for me to accomplish,” he stated.
Fr. Paintsil, reflecting on his devotion to the Rosary, said he learnt it from family prayers and has seen how God has transformed his life through it.
He described the Rosary as a powerful prayer that draws people closer to God and encouraged all Christians to embrace it.
“The rosary is really a wonderful prayer, a powerful prayer through which we can encounter God. And probably the Rosary is one of the best means through which I can bring people together to worship,” he said.
