Prolonged MTN Network Failure Cripples Businesses In Abofour Township; Residents Cry For Urgent Intervention And Expansion
Residents, traders, and business owners in Abofour Township in the Offinso South Municipality of the Ashanti Region are appealing passionately to MTN Ghana for urgent intervention over persistent network instability that has hit the community for several days.
For the past days, the MTN network in Abofour has been extremely poor and virtually unusable. Residents say they are unable to make and receive calls, buy airtime, access mobile data, or carry out Mobile Money (MoMo) transactions.
The situation, according to them, has left the entire township stranded and frustrated.
Speaking to this reporter, some affected residents explained that their daily lives and livelihoods depend largely on the MTN network, and the current challenge is having a severe toll on them.
“For days now, we are struggling. The network comes and goes, we cannot make calls, our data is not working, we cannot browse, we cannot go on Facebook, WhatsApp, TikTok and other social media platforms. Even our airtime gets stuck. We are really suffering,” one resident said.
Mobile Money vendors and shop owners are the worst affected. They say customers come to transact business but they are unable to process transactions due to the network failure, leading to loss of income and customer dissatisfaction.
“Our businesses are not ongoing. Customers come for MoMo withdrawals and deposits but the network fails. Sometimes the money is deducted but we don’t see it. It is very worrying and we are losing our customers,” a MoMo vendor lamented.
Beyond business, residents say the poor network is affecting communication, education, emergency response and social life, as students are unable to study online and families cannot reach each other.
In view of this, residents are respectfully appealing to MTN Ghana to as a matter of urgency dispatch a technical team to Abofour to assess the situation and restore full and stable network services.
They also made a special appeal to MTN Ghana and the National Communications Authority (NCA) to consider extending telecommunication infrastructure and improving network coverage to underserved and newly developing areas within the township, particularly the Abofour New Market area and Abofour Chalavin, where residents say they find it extremely difficult to get access to any network at all.
According to them, expanding coverage to these areas will not only enhance communication but will also boost economic activities, support digital inclusion, and improve security in the community.
They are hopeful that MTN Ghana, known for its wide coverage and customer-centered services, will respond swiftly to their plea and come to their aid with lasting assistance.
