Akuapem South MP Celebrates Ghana’s 2026 World Cup Qualification, Calls for National Unity
The Member of Parliament for Akuapem South Hon. Lawrencia Dziwornu has urged Ghanaians to rally behind the Black Stars as the nation prepares for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, describing the tournament as an opportunity to strengthen national unity and showcase Ghana’s football excellence on the global stage.
Addressing Parliament on Thursday, 11th June, 2026, the Akuapem South legislator noted that football possesses a unique ability to bring Ghanaians together regardless of political affiliation, ethnicity, or social background. She said moments such as the World Cup allow citizens to put aside their differences and unite behind a common national cause.
Hon. Lawrencia Dziwornu highlighted the historic significance of the 2026 tournament, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, marking the first time three nations have co-hosted the FIFA World Cup.
She further noted that the competition will be the largest in the tournament’s history, expanding from 32 to 48 participating teams and featuring 104 matches across the three host countries.
Reflecting on Ghana’s World Cup journey, the MP recalled the Black Stars’ maiden appearance at the 2006 FIFA World Cup and their historic quarter-final run at the 2010 FIFA World Cup, achievements that elevated Ghana’s reputation in world football.
She praised the Black Stars for their talent, resilience, and determination, stating that the team’s performances over the years have consistently inspired pride among Ghanaians and demonstrated the country’s ability to compete at the highest level.
Hon. Dziwornu expressed confidence that Ghana’s participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup would not only provide exciting sporting moments but also reinforce national cohesion and inspire a new generation of footballers.
