Bugri Naabu Backs Chairman Wontumi for NPP National Chairmanship, Cites Grassroots Strength
Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has received a high-profile endorsement for the NPP’s national chairmanship race, with former Northern Regional Chairman Daniel Bugri Naabu throwing his weight behind the Ashanti Regional Chairman.
Speaking on the growing calls for Wontumi to lead the party nationally, Bugri Naabu described him as “a true grassroots leader who understands the base of the party and knows how to win elections.”
According to Naabu, Wontumi’s political track record and connection to the party’s base make him uniquely positioned to mobilize support at the constituency level. He credited the Ashanti Regional Chairman with playing a key role in the emergence of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as the NPP’s presidential candidate during the party’s internal contests.
“If the NPP is serious about recapturing power in 2028, then Chairman Wontumi is the man who must lead the charge,” Bugri Naabu stated.
His comments add to a chorus of voices within the party advocating for a leadership change that prioritizes grassroots mobilization and electoral strategy ahead of the next general election.
Wontumi, known for his outspoken style and strong organizational presence in the Ashanti Region, has formally declared his intention to contest the national chairmanship.
However, his potential bid has been building among party members who argue that the NPP needs a leader with proven electoral mobilization capacity.
The NPP is expected to hold internal elections in the coming months to select new national executives as it prepares for the 2028 presidential and parliamentary polls.
