SUAME INTERCHANGE: SHOPS OUTSIDE DESIGNATED AREAS TO BE REMOVED

Authorities overseeing the construction of the Suame Interchange in the Ashanti Region have announced plans to remove shops and stores that are not located within their designated areas to pave way for the project.

The exercise forms part of measures to clear areas affected by the construction of the interchange and its ancillary works.

According to the project team, several structures and businesses around the Suame and Abrepo enclaves have been identified to be within the project’s right-of-way and impact zone, obstructing ongoing and upcoming works.

The team says affected traders and shop owners are expected to relocate and strictly comply with the designated trading areas provided, as construction activities intensify.

They explained that the move is necessary to ensure that construction works proceed according to the approved engineering design and to allow contractors full access to the site.

The clearance is also aimed at improving traffic flow around the Suame Roundabout, which has for years been notorious for heavy vehicular congestion.

When completed, the Suame Interchange, a major road infrastructure project in Kumasi, is expected to significantly reduce traffic congestion, improve road safety and drastically cut travel time for commuters and motorists who use the stretch daily.

The authorities have urged all affected persons to cooperate with the directive to avoid forcible removal, while assuring that the project is being executed in the best interest of residents and road users.
