By Dominic Duut – Awukugua, Eastern Region.
The Awukugua Mponuahene, Nana Otweredom Owusu Obuobi I, popularly known as Okere Kpomkpo, has enstooled three sub-chiefs to support the administration and development of the Awukugua community in the Okere District of the Eastern Region.
In an interview with Oyerepa TV/FM correspondent George Botha, Nana Otweredom Owusu Obuobi I explained that following his installation as Mponuahene by the Chief of Awukugua, Osabarima Opese Konadu, it had become necessary to strengthen his traditional administration by installing a queen mother and a linguist to assist in governance.
He noted that the newly enstooled queen mother had already demonstrated commitment and dedication to the community, adding that her installation was intended to recognise her contributions and encourage the youth to embrace good conduct and contribute to local development.
The newly enstooled Mponuahemaa, Miss Agartha Mpere Ansong, in her acceptance speech, expressed concern over boundary disputes in the area, which she said often lead to litigation.
She pledged to work closely with the traditional council to address the disputes and promote peace and understanding among residents.
Miss Ansong also urged the youth to embrace unity and support their traditional leaders in promoting the socio-economic development of the community.
Meanwhile, the Abontedom Ankobeahemaa of Awukugua, Awurafia Kumiwaa, encouraged the newly enstooled Mponuahemaa to sustain the good work for which she is known, particularly through her service as an assemblywoman.
She expressed confidence that the queen mother’s experience would be valuable to the traditional area and called on her to work closely with the chiefs to advance the community’s development agenda.
Awurafia Kumiwaa further admonished the youth to stay away from illicit drugs and other harmful practices, stressing the importance of responsible behaviour in building a productive society and promoting sustainable socio-economic growth.
