Abofour Health Centre Nurses Educate Presbyterian Singing Band Union On Breast Cancer And Hypertension
By Dominic Duut – Abofour, Offinso South_
Health professionals at the Abofour Health Centre in the Offinso South Municipality of the Ashanti Region have organized a health education and screening exercise for members of the Abofour-Offinso Presbyterian Singing Band Union.
The exercise focused on breast cancer awareness and hypertension screening.
The breast cancer education session was highly interactive, with both men and women asking questions which were answered with evidence-based information. Participants were educated on the early warning signs of breast cancer, the importance of self-examination, early detection, and the need to seek prompt medical attention when abnormalities are detected.
As part of the programme, participants also underwent free blood pressure checks. Those who recorded elevated blood pressure levels were counselled on healthy lifestyle practices, including proper dieting, reduction of salt intake, regular exercise, and strict adherence to prescribed medications.
According to the facilitators, contact numbers of participants were taken with their consent to ensure effective follow-up and continuity of care.
The facilitators were Mr. Benjamin Fosu Owusu-Ansah, a Registered General Nurse, and Madam Patricia Faah, a Public Health Nurse, both of the Abofour Health Centre.
They expressed appreciation to the leadership of the Presbyterian Church and members of the Singing Band Union for their warm reception, active participation and commitment to promoting health and well-being in the community.
The team has encouraged churches, schools, associations and community groups interested in free health education programmes to contact them on 054 252 9352 for scheduling.
