Nursing Mothers in Kwapanin Receive Maternal Mental Health Education
Offinso South Municipality-As part of Purple Month mental health awareness activities, 15 nursing mothers at Kwapanin received a targeted presentation on maternal mental health during their routine child welfare clinic.
The session, held in the small community within the Offinso South municipality, was facilitated by the Psychiatric Mental Health Unit of Abofour Health Center, under the leadership of Michael Kyei Baffour.
Speaking during the outreach, the team emphasized that mental health constitutes total health, and stressed the need for mental health first aid for all.
The Kwapanin engagement forms part of a weekly mental health awareness program run by the Unit, aimed at extending comprehensive mental health discourse to every individual within the municipality and beyond.
“Our objective is to ensure no one is left behind in mental health education,” a representative from the Unit noted.
“Maternal mental health is critical because a mother’s wellbeing directly impacts her child, her family, and the community.”
The child welfare clinic setting was chosen to meet mothers where they already access care, making mental health support more accessible and reducing stigma.
Topics covered included recognizing signs of postpartum depression, coping strategies, and where to seek help within the municipality.
The Abofour Health Center’s Psychiatric Mental Health Unit, led by Michael Kyei Baffour, continues to roll out weekly community-based programs throughout Purple Month and beyond, reinforcing its commitment to holistic health in Offinso South.
