Newborn Found Dumped in Drain at Obuasi Old Estate

Obuasi, A/R – Residents of Old Estate in the Obuasi Municipality woke up to a heartbreaking scene on Saturday morning after the body of a newborn baby was discovered abandoned in a drain.

An eyewitness account indicates that the baby was first spotted in a gutter within the community between 12:00 midnight and 1:00 a.m. The news, however, spread among residents at about 6:30 a.m., attracting a large crowd to the area.

The Assembly Member-elect for the Estate Electoral Area, Hon. Gabasey, together with members of the unit committee, responded swiftly to the scene. They took steps to retrieve the body and made arrangements for its burial.

The incident has been formally reported to the security agencies for investigation to unravel the circumstances leading to the death and dumping of the baby.

The tragedy has thrown the entire Old Estate community into a state of shock and mourning, with residents calling on authorities to conduct thorough investigations to bring the perpetrators to book.

Police have urged members of the public with any relevant information to come forward to assist investigations.
