Kumasi-Lake Bosomtwe Road: Residents and Chiefs Urge Government Action Ahead of Presidential Visit
Frustration is mounting in the Bosomtwe District as traditional leaders and residents renew calls for the government to construct the deteriorating Kumasi to Lake Bosomtwe road, a key route to Ghana’s largest natural lake in the Ashanti Region.
The Akyeamehene of Lake Bosomtwe Abono, Nana Yaw Badu, said repeated appeals for the road’s reconstruction have yielded no results.
Speaking to Oyerepa and Promise News, he stressed the lake’s tourism importance, noting it draws both domestic and international visitors on weekends, holidays, and special occasions.
A paved road, he argued, would not just improve access but also attract investment and strengthen the local economy.
“Construct the Kumasi to Lake Bosomtwe road for us,” Nana Yaw Badu pleaded.
Local drivers plying the route say the road’s poor condition is taking a heavy financial toll.
They report that vehicle maintenance costs have tripled, with spare parts wearing out faster than normal due to rough terrain and potholes.
The drivers say reconstruction would ease the burden on operators, passengers, and the steady stream of tourists visiting the lake.
“Maintenance cost has tripled,” one driver stated.
The Assembly Member for the Abono electoral area, Hon. Osei Appiah Joseph, added that contractor Kofi Job of Kofi Job Construction Firm abandoned the project shortly after the 2024 elections.
He is now appealing to the Ashanti Regional Minister to ensure President John Mahama experiences the road firsthand during his scheduled visit to the region on Saturday, 9th May 2026.
“We are pleading with the Regional Minister,” Hon. Osei Appiah said, hoping the president’s direct observation will spur immediate action.
Lake Bosomtwe remains one of the Ashanti Region’s most significant tourism assets, yet access challenges continue to limit its economic potential for surrounding communities.
