Asuofua Triumphs as Controversial 24-Hour Market Project Takes Off
Despite opposition from some residents of Barekese over the location of the project, the Atwima Nwabiagya North District Assembly has officially cut sod for the construction of a 24-Hour Economy Market at Asuofua.
Leading the ceremony, the District Chief Executive, Hon. Mba Zechariah Alenbilla, described the project as a major boost to local economic development and expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama and the traditional authorities of Asuofua for making the project possible.
The market, being implemented under the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, will feature modern shops and stalls, a clinic, daycare centre, women’s bank, police and fire posts, restaurants, pharmacies and other facilities.
Project Manager for Eco-Planners and Engineering Consult, Engineer Daniel Yeboah, said construction works are expected to begin within two weeks, with contractor Darlingtek Company Limited scheduled to complete the project within 36 months.
The Queenmother of Asuofua, Nana Ahenkan Baanie, welcomed the project and appealed to the contractor to prioritize local artisans and labourers during construction.
