NCCE Offinso North Office Faces Operational Setbacks Due to Logistics and Funding Challenges

Offinso, Ashanti Region– The National Commission for Civic Education office in Offinso North District says it is struggling to deliver on its constitutional mandate due to persistent logistics, transport, and financial constraints.

In an interview with the media, the district office noted that inadequate vehicles, fuel support, and dedicated funding are limiting staff movement and the rollout of civic education programs across the district’s communities.

The NCCE is constitutionally mandated under Article 233 of the 1992 Constitution to promote democratic values and civic awareness.

Its core work includes educating citizens on the Constitution, voter rights, conflict prevention, and the duties of both citizens and public office holders.

Without reliable transport and fuel, officers cannot regularly visit rural communities, markets, and schools. This leaves residents in hard-to-reach areas with limited access to voter education and constitutional literacy programs.

Civic clubs in Junior and Senior High Schools also depend on NCCE facilitators for training. With logistics gaps, there are fewer school visits, which weakens efforts to build democratic values in young people.

The Commission also plays a key role in responding early to chieftaincy tensions, election-related disputes, and misinformation.

Transport and funding shortfalls delay these rapid-response engagements, increasing the risk of escalation.

Limited operational funds are further affecting basic office functions like printing materials, maintaining equipment, and organizing community durbars, which cuts the office’s overall reach.

The Offinso North office is therefore appealing to the District Assembly, MPs, NGOs, and development partners for support with vehicles, fuel, and operational funding to restore full service delivery.

“With the right logistics and funding, we can reach every corner of Offinso North and ensure citizens are informed, engaged, and empowered to participate in Ghana’s democracy,” the office stated.

NCCE was established to create and sustain a democracy that respects human rights and the rule of law through civic education.
