One Month in Darkness: Abofour-Dumansua Residents Blast MCE Over Failed Transformer Promise

Abofour-Dumansua, Offinso South – Residents of Abofour-Dumansua in the Offinso South Municipality of the Ashanti Region have expressed deep disappointment and anger at their Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Hon.Frank Owusu Amoah over failure to resolve a month-long power outage in the community.

According to community leaders, the town has been in total blackout for over one month following the breakdown of their transformers.
The prolonged outage has crippled economic activities, destroyed perishable goods and left residents in frustration.

The leaders told the media that they officially approached the MCE with a petition, seeking his intervention to lobby the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and relevant authorities to restore power.

“We went to the MCE with our petition. He received us and promised us that he had already ordered some transformers and that they were on their way from Tamale and by Thursday last week, we would have light,” a community leader recounted.

“From Thursday last week till date, not even one person has come to ask us about the progress. We are highly disappointed with the MCE for failing us. We never thought it would get to this day for us to be in darkness.”

Residents say the situation has become unbearable.

“If you cannot lobby for us, just tell us to contribute money for some of the transformers. Our businesses are collapsing, the system is hard, our food has spoiled and businesses are totally down. We have been in darkness for one month, enough is enough,” they lamented.

Traders who depend on cold stores, hairdressers, barbers, welders and other artisans say they have been forced to shut down operations, as they cannot afford fuel for generators.

The community is now appealing to the Ashanti Regional Minister, the Ministry of Energy, and the ECG to intervene immediately, warning that if nothing is done in the coming days, they will be forced to take further action to press home their demands.

Efforts to reach the MCE for his response proved unsuccessful as at the time of filing this report.
