Offinso North MP Appeals to Gov’t, Highway Authority to Fix Deadly Afrancho Methodist Curve and Speed Ramps.

The Member of Parliament for Offinso North, Hon. Dr. Fred Kyei Asamoah, has appealed to the Government and the Ghana Highway Authority to urgently re-assess and redesign the speed ramps and the sharp curve at Afrancho Methodist, describing the spot as a death trap.
According to the MP, the stretch continues to claim the lives of his constituents and remains a hotspot for ghastly accidents.
Speaking in a one-on-one interview with King Edward on Hello FM, Dr. Kyei Asamoah lamented that the positioning of the speed ramps on the sharp bend near the Afrancho Methodist Church/School has made vehicular movement extremely dangerous, especially for heavy-duty trucks, commercial drivers and motorcyclists who ply the busy Techiman-Kumasi highway.
“The sharp curve and the speed ramps at Afrancho Methodist have become a death trap. My constituents continue to lose their lives. Accidents are rampant at that particular spot. We cannot continue to watch this happen,” he told King Edward.
He noted that several drivers lose control when they encounter the ramps unexpectedly while navigating the curve, leading to vehicles veering off the road, somersaulting, and in some cases crashing into nearby structures.
Hon. Dr. Kyei Asamoah, who is also the Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Chieftaincy, Culture and Religious Affairs, stressed that Afrancho is a densely populated farming community and a major transit point for farmers transporting foodstuffs to Kumasi and Techiman.
The persistent accidents, he said, are not only costing lives but also affecting economic activities and livelihoods.
He is therefore calling on the Ministry of Roads and Highways and the Ghana Highway Authority to, as a matter of urgency, dispatch a team of engineers to the area to:
1. Re-assess the appropriateness of the speed ramps sited on the sharp curve;
2. Install adequate warning signs, reflective markings and speed limit signs ahead of the curve; and
3. Consider straightening the curve or reconstructing the ramps to meet standard engineering specifications.
“The safety of my people is paramount. I am appealing to the government to act now before more lives are lost.
This is a preventable situation and we need immediate intervention,” he emphasized during the interview on Hello FM.
Residents of Afrancho have welcomed the MP’s intervention, describing the stretch as a long-standing nightmare.
They recounted several instances where vehicles carrying farm produce and market women have been involved in accidents at the spot.
The MP assured his constituents that he will continue to follow up with the relevant authorities until the necessary corrective measures are taken to make the road safe for all users.
