STOP THE SELECTIVE OUTRAGE AND ATTACKS ON GOLDBOD- C-DAG TO AFENYO MARKIN

The Concerned Drivers Association of Ghana (C-DAG) has observed with utter dismay the recent persistent public attacks launched by the Minority Leader in Parliament, Hon. Alexander Afenyo-Markin, against the operations and management of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) over alleged financial losses.

As a key transport and economic stakeholder group whose members bear the direct brunt of national economic missteps and fuel price volatility, we find Hon.

Afenyo-Markin’s sudden crusade for financial accountability deeply hypocritical, selective, and politically motivated.

We wish to categorically observe that the Minority Leader’s posture amounts to nothing short of selective silence and double standards.

We question why the Minority Leader has suddenly found his voice to criticise GoldBod while failing to demonstrate the same zeal regarding previous initiatives.

We demand that Hon. Afenyo-Markin answer the following question: Where was his voice during the execution of the Gold Fir Oil policy under the NPP administration which despite huge volumes of hold exchanges the prices of fuel never dropped but kept skyrocketing and hitting GHC 23.00 per liter at some point.

Why has he not demanded accountability for domestic gold purchases through the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC)? Significant losses and operational gaps occurred under past domestic purchasing models, yet no fiery press conferences were called to defend the Ghanaian taxpayer.

It is hypocrisy of the highest order to remain tight-lipped when your political party’s policies created systemic losses, only to turn around and weaponize public discourse against key institutions when political expediency suits you.

Goldbod has at least helped to stabilize the economy. The downturn of the dollar rate has led to the reduction in the price of vehicles. Fuel prices though moderately high remains much affordable than under the tenure of his party in government.

The Ghanaian transport sector and the general public need sustainable economic policies, stable fuel prices, and genuine accountability, not partisan political scoring.

We strongly advise Hon. Alexander Afenyo-Markin to refrain from unprovoked attacks on GoldBod.

If he is truly committed to protecting public funds, his scrutiny must be holistic, fair, and applied equally to past decisions, including the Gold-for-Oil scheme and PMMC transactions.

As the minority leader claiming to be so much concerned about the welfare of the Ghanaian economy why hasn’t he joined the call for accountability and extradition of former finance minister Ken Ofori Attah whose reckless leadership threw Ghana’s economy off-gear?
