Gomoa Maim Deserves Better – Traditional Leaders Appeal for Government Support
By Dominic Duut
The Chiefs and elders of Gomoa Maim in the Gomoa West District have made a passionate appeal to government, saying years of neglect have left the community without basic amenities despite its status as the ancestral home of all Gomoa communities.
The call came during this year’s Ahoba Festival, held to commemorate the death and legacy of Egya Ahor, the forefather credited with establishing the Gomoa State.

Speaking to festival participants, the traditional authorities said Gomoa Maim, regarded as the head of the Gomoa Traditional Area in the Central Region, has received little state investment. Apart from a basic school, residents say there is minimal government infrastructure in the town.
The leaders listed poor road networks, limited access to healthcare, and shortage of potable water as their most pressing challenges.
They are asking government and development partners to provide a Community-based Health Planning and Services CHPS compound, mechanized boreholes, improved roads, and other essential facilities.
“We are the head of all Gomoa communities, yet our town has been neglected for many years. Our people deserve better living conditions and access to basic amenities,” an elder told the gathering.

Queen mother Obaatanpa Ahemaa Panyin II added that developing Gomoa Maim would improve residents’ welfare and protect the community’s cultural heritage and historical importance.
She appealed to government, NGOs, and philanthropists to support efforts to transform the area for future generations.
The Ahoba Festival drew traditional leaders, opinion leaders, natives, and visitors from across the Gomoa Traditional Area.

The event combined cultural displays, unity celebrations, and reflections on the community’s development needs.
Gomoa Maim’s appeal adds to growing calls from traditional areas across the Central Region for targeted investment in rural infrastructure and health services.
