Akumadan Market Traders Voice Frustration Over Economic Conditions, Call on President Mahama for Support
Akumadan, Offinso North District, Ashanti Region- Traders and market women in Akumadan staged a public show of discontent this week, directing sharp criticism at President John Dramani Mahama over what they describe as worsening economic hardship.
In an interview with the media on Tuesday market, traders expressed frustration with the high cost of living and a sharp drop in sales at the Akumadan market.
Many said the low patronage has made it difficult to sustain their businesses and meet daily expenses.
The traders attributed their struggles to the policies of the current administration, arguing that the economic environment has made trading increasingly difficult. “We are suffering.
The cost of goods is high, but customers have no money to buy,” one trader said in the footage. Others echoed similar concerns, pointing to reduced customer traffic and shrinking profit margins.
Beyond the criticism, the market women and traders made a direct appeal to President Mahama, urging him to intervene and provide financial assistance to help revive their businesses.
They said targeted support would help cushion them against the current downturn and enable them to restock and trade effectively.
Akumadan, located in the Offinso North District of the Ashanti Region, is a key trading hub for foodstuffs and agricultural produce.
Market activity there is often seen as a barometer for local economic conditions.
