Long-standing infrastructure Challenges at Juaben SHS Attract Government Attention

After years of battling inadequate infrastructure, Juaben Senior High School in the Ashanti Region is set to benefit from a major expansion and rehabilitation programme expected to improve conditions for both students and teachers.

The school, which was established over five decades ago, has seen a steady rise in enrolment without corresponding expansion in infrastructure.

This has placed pressure on existing facilities and created accommodation difficulties for staff.

Out of the school’s 304 staff members, only 32 teachers currently have access to accommodation on campus, a situation many believe has affected teacher welfare and supervision.

In response, the Juaben Municipal Assembly, with funding support from GETFund, has commenced work on 23 separate projects at the school. The initiative includes 11 new projects, 11 renovation works and the construction of an AstroTurf facility.

The planned projects comprise teachers’ bungalows, a science resource centre, ICT laboratory and additional sanitary facilities aimed at improving academic and social life on campus.

Addressing the gathering at the sod-cutting ceremony, the Municipal Chief Executive, Eunice Ohenewaa Ansu, reaffirmed government’s commitment to strengthening educational infrastructure within the municipality.

Project consultant Engineer Richard Quinoo also assured that the necessary logistics and resources have been made available for the smooth execution of the projects.

He disclosed that the entire project is expected to be completed within a two-year period.
