Three Passengers Killed in Head-On Collision on Asiakwa–Kyebi Highway

Three passengers have died following a head-on collision involving a Matiz taxi cab and a Toyota Highlander on the Adukrom–Odumase stretch of the Asiakwa–Kyebi highway in the Abuakwa South Municipality of the Eastern Region.

The accident occurred at about 3:00 p.m. on Monday, August 10, 2026.

According to eyewitnesses, the Highlander, which was travelling from Asiakwa towards Kyebi, attempted to overtake another vehicle at a bend where bushes along the shoulders of the road obstructed visibility. The vehicle subsequently collided with the oncoming Matiz taxi cab, registered as GC-2066-19.

The impact caused the taxi to somersault into an abandoned illegal mining pit, resulting in the deaths of three passengers, while another passenger sustained injuries.

The injured passenger was initially taken to the Kyebi Government Hospital and later referred to the Koforidua Central Hospital for further treatment.

The only occupant of the Highlander also sustained injuries and is currently receiving treatment at the Kyebi Government Hospital.

The Police have commenced investigations into the accident to establish the circumstances surrounding the crash.
