TRAGEDY AT OFFINSO ABROKYIRE: Man Allegedly With Mental Illness Butchers Farm Caretaker To Death, Critically Injures Chief; Lynched By Speeding Car While Fleeing
Offinso Abrokyire, Ashanti Region- A farming community at Abrokyire in the Offinso Municipality has been thrown into a state of shock after a man believed to be suffering from mental health challenges allegedly butchered a farm caretaker to death and inflicted life-threatening cutlass wounds on the chief of the community.
The suspect, who is also now deceased, was reportedly knocked down by a speeding vehicle while attempting to escape after the attack.
According to preliminary reports from family members, the incident happened on Saturday at the Abrokyire farms.
The main victim, a farm caretaker in his early 40s whose name has been withheld, was working on the farm when he was attacked and butchered to death by the suspect.
The Chief of Abrokyire, who is also the owner of the farm, is currently in critical condition at the St. Patrick’s Hospital in Offinso.
Reports indicate he sustained severe cutlass wounds to his hand and other parts of his body. Family sources say doctors may have to amputate his hand due to the extent of the injury.
Narrating the incident, a daughter of the injured chief, identified as Konadu, said her father had earlier encountered the suspect while he was returning home to pick something.
“The man asked my father to kneel down. While he was on his knees, the man left him and went to the farm,” she recounted.
Unknowingly, the suspect allegedly proceeded to attack and kill the caretaker on the farm.
When the chief was returning to the farm after hearing the sad news, he reportedly met the suspect again in the company of three other men. The suspect then allegedly attacked him, inflicting multiple cutlass wounds.
According to Konadu, when the attacker attempted to cut off her father’s head, two of the men intervened, with one hitting the suspect’s hand with a piece of wood.
The suspect then took to his heels.
While fleeing the scene, he was reportedly knocked down by a passing vehicle and died on the spot.
The body of the deceased caretaker has since been deposited at the morgue, while the chief is receiving treatment at St. Patrick’s Hospital.
Police in Offinso are yet to officially comment on the incident, but residents say investigations have commenced.
