Fuel Tanker En Route to Tamale Catches Fire During Offloading; Driver Sustains Burn
Tamale, Ghana – Saturday, 4th July 2026_
A fuel tanker travelling to Tamale was involved in an accident at Offinso Sakamkrom and later gutted by fire during an offloading operation, leaving the driver with burns.
According to A.D.O 1, fire personnel at offinso Fire Service, he said they were alerted to the initial accident on Friday, 3rd July 2026, around 9:00pm. Crews responded and remained at the scene through the night.
Efforts to manage the incident continued into the next day. Today, Saturday, 4th July 2026, at approximately 3:00pm, the tanker caught fire while responders were attempting to offload fuel into another tanker.
The driver sustained burns from the flames. The extent of the injuries has not yet been confirmed.
A.D.O 1 stated that personnel spent the entire night at the scene following the Friday night accident before the fire broke out during the offloading operation the following afternoon.
The cause of the initial accident and the subsequent fire was that the tanker tried to save a a Voxy vehicles which allegedly did wrongly overtaken . Authorities are expected to conduct further investigations.
