Education Committee Tightens Scrutiny on Colleges Over Auditor-General’s Report

The Parliamentary Select Committee on Education has intensified its oversight of selected Colleges of Education and Technical Universities following concerns raised in the Auditor-General’s reports for the 2024 and 2025 financial years.

This came to the fore when the Committee met with the management of the affected institutions to respond to infractions and operational challenges cited in the reports.

The Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Peter Nortsu-Kotoe, expressed concern over procurement irregularities identified at some of the institutions and urged management to strictly adhere to procurement procedures and strengthen accountability in the use of public resources.

Contributing to the deliberations, Hon. Dr. Fred Kyei Asamoah, Member of Parliament for Offinso North, called on the colleges to establish comprehensive risk management policies and to proactively identify potential challenges in order to minimize their impact on operations.

Committee members also urged the institutions to prioritise regular in-service training for staff to improve professional capacity and management standards.

The engagement forms part of the Committee’s mandate to ensure compliance with audit recommendations, promote prudent financial management, and enhance governance in tertiary institutions.

Institutions that appeared before the Committee included St. John Bosco’s College of Education, Gambaga College of Education, Dambai College of Education, Al-Faruq College of Education, OLA College of Education, Peki College of Education, St. Francis College of Education, E.P. College of Education, Amedzofe, Akrokeri College of Education, Wiawso College of Education, Nusrat Jahan Ahmadiyya College of Education, Sunyani Technical University and Dr. Hilla Limann Technical University.
