NABMAG Announces Major Progress on Inclusion of Bimoba Language in Ghana’s National Language Development Programme.
The National Association of Bimoba, Moba and Gurmas (NABMAG) has announced significant progress in its drive for the recognition and development of the Bimoba language under Ghana’s National Language Development Programme.
In an update issued by its President, Amos Konsab, NABMAG confirmed that the Head of the Bureau of Ghana Languages has reaffirmed the Bureau’s commitment to including Bimoba in its official language development programme.
The assurance follows a high-level engagement between the leadership of NABMAG and the Bureau of Ghana Languages on the recognition, preservation and promotion of the Bimoba language.
According to NABMAG, the Head of the Bureau disclosed that the institution is currently working towards the inclusion and development of three Ghanaian languages Bimoba, Mampruli and Wala- as part of broader national efforts to promote indigenous languages.
The Bureau further indicated that NABMAG will play a crucial role during the implementation stage of the programme.
The Association has therefore been encouraged to remain actively engaged and to provide the necessary attention, cooperation and support to ensure the successful execution of the initiative.
The Head of the Bureau also revealed that preparations are underway for the official inauguration of the programme in November 2026 at the National Theatre in Accra.
The inauguration, he noted, will follow a process similar to that previously undertaken for other Ghanaian language groups that have been incorporated into the national programme.
As part of the roadmap, officers from the Bureau of Ghana Languages are expected to embark on fieldwork in Bimoba-speaking communities across the country.
The exercise will involve gathering relevant linguistic data and undertaking other activities necessary for the proper development, standardization and inclusion of the Bimoba language in the national programme.
NABMAG describes the development as a historic milestone for the Bimoba people, particularly in the collective quest to preserve and promote their language, culture and identity for present and future generations.
The leadership of NABMAG has called on all Bimobas, traditional authorities, scholars, language experts, youth groups, civil society organisations and other stakeholders to rally behind the initiative.
The Association stressed that the successful development and promotion of the language will require collective effort, unity and active participation from all stakeholders.
NABMAG has assured its members that it will continue to follow up on the process and provide timely updates as more information becomes available.
The Association believes the inclusion of Bimoba in the national programme will provide a vital platform for the preservation, promotion and advancement of the language and will further strengthen the cultural identity of the Bimoba people.
“Together, we can preserve, promote and advance the Bimoba language for present and future generations,” the NABMAG leadership stated.
