Sand Winning Activities Destroy Nyinataase-Akumadan Road; Residents Appeal to MP, DCE for Urgent Rehabilitation

OFFINSO NORTH- Residents, traders and road users at Nyinataase in the Offinso North District of the Ashanti Region are appealing to authorities for urgent intervention over the deplorable state of their road network.

According to the residents, activities of sand winners in the area have badly damaged the road linking Nyinataase to Akumadan, making it difficult for farmers to transport foodstuffs to the Akumadan market.

The situation, they say, is affecting the livelihoods of buyers, sellers and drivers who ply the route daily.

Speaking in an interview, some road users and traders lamented that the road has become almost impassable, especially after rainfall, increasing the risk of accidents and post-harvest losses.

They are therefore appealing to the Member of Parliament for the area and the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Offinso North to deploy the DRIP machines meant for road reshaping to fix the road for the benefit of the people.

They further called on authorities to either regulate sand winning activities in the area or provide proper training for the sand winners on how to operate without destroying roads and farmlands, so that their activities do not negatively affect the daily lives of residents while they go about their business.

The residents stressed that Nyinataase is a major food production area, and failure to fix the road will continue to affect food supply to Akumadan and beyond.

They are urging government and the district assembly to act swiftly to restore the road to make it motorable again for the good people of Nyinataase and Ghana at large.
