Kumasi, Ghana, Dr. Fred Kyei Asamoah, Member of Parliament for Offinso North and Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Chieftaincy, Culture and Religious Affairs, today led a delegation on a courtesy call to His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, at the Manhyia Palace.

The visit was aimed at reaffirming Parliament’s commitment to working closely with traditional authorities to strengthen traditional leadership and safeguard Ghana’s cultural heritage.

Speaking after the engagement, Dr. Kyei Asamoah said the committee’s mandate is closely tied to the role of traditional institutions in national life.

“Our visit reaffirmed our dedication to strengthening traditional leadership, preserving our rich cultural heritage, and fostering unity and national development through our cherished customs and institutions,” he stated.

The committee used the occasion to discuss ways of deepening collaboration between Parliament and the chieftaincy institution, particularly in areas of cultural preservation, dispute resolution, and community development.

As part of the engagement, the delegation also toured the Manhyia Palace Museum. Members took time to observe exhibits that highlight Asante history, art, and governance, noting the importance of museums in educating Ghanaians and visitors on the country’s heritage.

The Manhyia Palace visit underscores the ongoing relationship between Parliament and the Asante Kingdom, with both sides emphasizing the need to leverage traditional structures to advance national unity and development.

Dr. Kyei Asamoah has chaired the Committee on Chieftaincy, Culture and Religious Affairs since 2025 overseeing parliamentary oversight of institutions central to Ghana’s cultural and religious landscape.
