MULTIPLE AWARD-WINNING HEALTH EDUCATOR AKURAASE NURSE LEADS BREAST CANCER AWARENESS AT ST. JEROME SHS, ABOFOUR

Abofour, Offinso – Multiple award-winning rural health educator and nurse, Mr. Benjamin Fosu, popularly known as Akuraase Nurse, has led a successful breast cancer awareness campaign at St. Jerome Senior High School, Abofour.

The impactful health education session, held at the school, sought to empower students with accurate and life-saving information on breast cancer, its warning signs, risk factors, prevention and the importance of early detection.

Mr. Benjamin Fosu, who has won several awards for his outstanding contribution to rural health education and community health advocacy, engaged students in an interactive session where they asked thought-provoking questions and received clear, professional answers.

Key messages emphasised during the session included the need to know the warning signs of breast cancer, report unusual breast changes promptly to a health facility, avoid self-medication, and understand that breast cancer affects both women and men. He stressed that early detection and timely treatment can save lives.

The students demonstrated great enthusiasm and active participation throughout the programme, describing it as educative and eye-opening.

Mr. Fosu expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Headmistress, management, staff and students of St. Jerome SHS for their warm reception and cooperation in making the initiative a success.

The campaign forms part of his continuous efforts to break the silence around breast cancer, dispel myths, encourage early reporting and build a more informed generation.
