E/R: Police Investigate Alleged Abduction and Abuse of Women at Gated Facility in Ntano

Koforidua – The Eastern Regional Police Command has commenced investigations into alleged abduction and physical abuse of women at a gated residential facility at Ntano in the New Juaben North Municipality of the Eastern Region.

The facility, located around the CMB Workshop area in the Ntano Electoral Area, is reportedly occupied by about 18 West African nationals believed to be engaged in network marketing activities, according to preliminary police findings.

The investigation was triggered after residents in the area repeatedly heard unusual noises and distress cries suspected to be from women inside the apartments, particularly during evening hours.

Following the complaints, personnel from the Counter Terrorism Unit and the Effiduase Police Command were deployed to the location, leading to the arrest of some suspects who are currently in police custody.

The police are probing allegations that the women were abducted, detained against their will and subjected to physical abuse within the premises.

The Command is yet to disclose the identities of the suspects and the number of women allegedly affected. The circumstances surrounding the alleged incidents also remain under investigation.

Residents have expressed concern over reports that the suspects and alleged victims were returned to the same building, allegedly due to lack of cell space at the station, and are calling on the police to ensure thorough investigations and protection for the affected women.

Police say investigations are ongoing.
