NDC’s 24-Hour Economy Markets Will Promote Prostitution – NPP Chairman

NDC’s 24-Hour Economy Markets Will Promote Prostitution – NPP Chairman.

A New Patriotic Party (NPP) chairman for the Manso Adubia Constituency, Kofi Acheampong, has criticised the government’s proposed 24-hour economy policy, questioning its implementation and suggesting that it will inadvertently encourage social vices if not properly structured.

Speaking on the policy on Angel FM, Kumasi, monitored by mynewsgh, Acheampong argued that what has so far been presented to the public appears to be focused primarily on the construction of markets rather than a comprehensive economic transformation agenda.

“The 24-hour economy that was promised has become market building,” he claimed.

According to him, the policy’s success depends heavily on reliable infrastructure, particularly a stable electricity supply, which he believes remains a challenge.
“The lights can’t even stay on,” he stated.

Acheampong further expressed concern about the potential misuse of market facilities, since there will not be occupants at night; prostitutes will be the ones using the place for their business.
“It seems the market they are coming to build is intended for prostitutes to use,” he alleged.

He contended that, without clear operational guidelines and effective supervision, the initiative could create opportunities for activities that fall outside its intended economic objectives.
