Six Suspected Armed Robbers Arrested on Kintampo-Tamale Highway; GHC300,000 Retrieved

The Bono East Regional Police Command has arrested six persons suspected to be part of an armed robbery syndicate operating along the Kintampo-Tamale highway.

The arrest was made on Sunday, July 19, 2026, during a targeted, intelligence-led operation on the Kintampo-Portor section of the highway, a stretch notorious for highway robberies.

Briefing the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Techiman, the Bono East Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Shaibu Abubakari Sadique-Osei, said the operation was carried out by a joint team of the Police Patrol Unit and the Counter-Terrorism Unit.

He disclosed that the team retrieved GHC300,000 from the suspects at the time of arrest.

The suspects have been identified as Abdul Sadat Ali, 24, driver of a Toyota Voxy with registration number AS 1541-25; Sameed Issahaka, 24, driver of a KIA Rhino with registration number AS 7337-19; Abdul-Rhaman Mashud, 21; Asigri Avoka, 25; Awini Stephen, 19; and Faisal Salifu, 26.

According to DCOP Sadique-Osei, the six are currently in police custody assisting with investigations.

He said the Command has intensified patrols and surveillance on major highways in the region to curb armed robbery and ensure the safety of commuters, drivers and traders.

He added that the suspects will be arraigned before court after investigations are concluded, while appealing to the public to support the police with timely and credible information to fight crime.
