Road Minister to Public: Record Every Negative Activity on Our Roads
The Minister for Roads and Highways, Hon. Governs Kwame Agbodza, is calling on Ghanaians8 to become the ministry’s “eyes on the road” by recording and reporting any negative activity they witness.
Speaking during a public hearing by Parliament’s Committee on the Economy, the minister said citizen documentation will help the ministry take faster, stronger action against road vandalism and abuse.
“One person is currently serving a two-year jail term for removing a guardrail at the Obetsebi Lamptey Roundabout in Accra,” Hon. Agbodza revealed. “Another is helping Highways Ghana to fix an interchange he damaged with his truck.”
He said the cases prove that offenders will be held accountable, but the ministry needs more public support to catch violators in real time. Photos, videos, and details sent to the ministry can lead to arrests, prosecution, and recovery of repair costs.
The request comes as government intensifies efforts to protect road infrastructure across the country.
The minister stressed that guardrails, interchanges, and other safety installations are expensive public assets, and destroying them endangers lives.
He urged drivers, commuters, and residents to report incidents of guardrail removal, illegal U-turns, overloading, truck damage to bridges, and any act that degrades road infrastructure.
