Free Blood Pressure Screenings Held in Berekum Offinso for Hypertension Awareness Month

BEREKUM OFFINSO – Residents of Berekum Offinso received free blood pressure screenings and health education today as part of ongoing Hypertension Awareness Month outreach in the community.

Health teams lead by Mr.Benjamin Ofosu Owusu-Ansah set up screening points across the area, checking blood pressure for community members and providing education on hypertension prevention and management.

The initiative aims to close the gap on undetected cases, which often go unnoticed until serious complications develop.

“Hypertension remains one of the leading causes of stroke, heart disease, and kidney problems, yet many people do not know they have it until complications occur,” organizers said.

“Our goal is to bring preventive healthcare closer to the people  especially in our rural communities  through education, early detection, and regular screening.”

Health workers used the outreach to emphasize practical steps residents can take to lower their risk:

1. Check your blood pressure regularly – Early detection makes treatment more effective.

2. Reduce excessive salt intake– High sodium is a major contributor to high blood pressure.

3. Exercise and stay active– Even moderate daily activity helps regulate blood pressure.

4. Avoid smoking and excessive alcohol – Both increase cardiovascular risk significantly.

5. Seek medical attention early– Don’t wait for symptoms to worsen before seeing a health professional.

The outreach in Berekum Offinso is part of a broader campaign running throughout Hypertension Awareness Month to reach underserved and rural areas where access to routine screening is limited.

Organizers closed with a call to collective action: “Together, we can prevent avoidable deaths and build healthier communities.”
