Man killed following GH¢20 argument in Ashanti Region
A tragic disagreement over just GH¢20 has ended in the brutal death of a young man in the Ashanti Region, highlighting how quickly minor disputes can spiral into deadly violence.
According to reports, the incident happened at Asuboa in the Asante Akyem South Municipality, where a 27-year-old man identified as Kwadwo Richmond allegedly attacked and killed his friend, known only as Eric, following a heated argument over money.
The misunderstanding reportedly began after Eric had earlier sold a refrigerator to Richmond’s mother, who paid part of the amount but still owed a balance.
As part of the arrangement, Eric had promised to give Richmond GH¢20 as a token when he returned to collect the remaining money.
On the day of the incident, Eric travelled from Dampong to Asuboa to retrieve the outstanding balance. Upon arrival, Richmond immediately demanded the GH¢20 that had been promised to him.
However, Eric explained that he had just arrived and did not have the money on him yet, asking for time to first collect the balance from Richmond’s mother.
The situation quickly became tense when Richmond insisted on receiving the money immediately. In an attempt to resolve the issue, Eric suggested that Richmond could take the GH¢20 from the money his mother owed him.
Richmond reportedly went to his mother, but she refused to give him the money, which further fueled his anger.
Eyewitness accounts indicate that the disagreement escalated into a heated exchange of words, with both men insulting each other before bystanders stepped in to calm the situation.
At that point, many believed the matter had been settled after Richmond left the scene.
However, moments later, Richmond allegedly returned armed with a machete. Sensing danger, Eric picked up a piece of wood in an attempt to defend himself.
Despite his efforts, Richmond reportedly attacked him, cutting through the wood and inflicting serious injuries.
During the struggle, Eric fell while trying to escape, giving the suspect another opportunity to strike. He sustained deep wounds and managed to run a short distance before collapsing by the roadside due to severe blood loss.
He was rushed to the Juaso Government Hospital by a passerby but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Following the incident, the suspect fled and is currently on the run, with police launching a manhunt to locate and arrest him.
Officers have reportedly visited his residence and are continuing investigations into the case.
The deceased is said to have left behind a wife and four children, deepening the tragedy for his family, who now face an uncertain future after the senseless loss of their breadwinner.
