Mr. Beautiful blames profanity and poor rehearsal culture for Kumawood’s decline
Ghanaian comedian Clement Bonney, popularly known as Mr. Beautiful, has said the frequent use of inappropriate and unprintable words in Kumawood movies played a major role in the industry’s collapse.
Speaking with Nana Ama Ntiful on _Oyerepa Entertainment Review_, Mr. Beautiful noted that Ghanaians living abroad often rely on these movies to teach their children the Twi language and culture.
“For instance, when you come to Kumasi, insults like ‘Aboa’ and ‘Kwasia’ are used for fun. But we forget that the movies are not sold only in Kumasi but also outside.
Those abroad realise our movies are teaching their kids the wrong things. When you complain to a director that insults are not good, he will fight you. All these factors led to the decline of the industry,” he said.
He added that the lack of commitment to rehearsals within Kumawood also contributed to its collapse, leaving productions without new ideas or creativity on set.
