A recent letter from the University of Ghana’s Office of the Registrar has sparked controversysurrounding the academic credentials of Mr. Malik Basintale, who is under consideration for a high-profile appointment as Chief Executive Officer of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA).

The letter, dated May 27, 2025, and addressed to the Secretary of the Civil Service Council, reveals that the University of Ghana has conducted a thorough review of its records and documents related to Mr. Basintale’s alleged degree.
The findings are striking.

Furthermore, while the University’s records confirm that a Mr. Malik Basintale was indeed admitted in 2014, it is revealed that he has not fulfilled all the necessary academic requirements for ggraduation.

The Registrar, Mrs. Emelia Agyei-Mensah, has stated that Mr. Basintale has not been officially awarded a degree by the University of Ghana.
