NPP Youth Stage ‘Yegye Yɛ Sika’ Demo Over GH¢49.7m SA Evacuation Expenditure
The Youth Wing of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is staging a demonstration in Accra today over alleged financial mismanagement by the John Dramani Mahama-led government.
The protesters have converged at the Airport Junction in Accra, demanding accountability, transparency and fulfillment of campaign promises.
Dubbed the ‘Yegye Yɛ Sika Demo’, the protest has brought together NPP youth members and supporters to demand answers from government, particularly over the reported GH¢49.7 million allocated for the evacuation of Ghanaians from South Africa.
The demonstrators are demanding that the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, provide a detailed account of how the funds were spent.
They are also demanding his resignation, calling on President John Dramani Mahama to sack him from office if he fails to give a satisfactory account.
According to NPP members who joined the protest, money meant for creating jobs for Ghanaian youth has been misappropriated and diverted to other areas, which they describe as unacceptable.
Some protesters also claimed that cocoa farmers are suffering more under the current NDC government compared to the previous NPP administration.
Others are calling on President John Dramani Mahama to expedite action on the Obuasi SHS case to ensure justice is served.
