Holy Family Hospital Records 100 Breast Cancer Cases in 2026; Women Advised to do Regular Examination and Seek Early Treatment

Dr. Kingsley Bosompem, a general surgeon and Head of the Breast Care Unit at the Holy Family Catholic Teaching Hospital in Techiman, Bono East Region, has disclosed that the facility has recorded approximately 100 breast cancer cases in 2026.

He further disclosed that approximately 70 per cent of breast cancer patients who report to the hospital are diagnosed at advanced stages of the disease, a situation that makes treatment more challenging and, unfortunately, contributes to some deaths.

Dr. Bosompem assured the public that breast cancer patients who seek medical attention early have a high chance of successful treatment and complete recovery.

He further explained that advancements in medical technology and modern treatment methods mean that a breast does not necessarily have to be removed during treatment, urging women to seek early medical attention rather than delay reporting symptoms.

He further explained that advancements in medical technology and modern treatment methods mean that a breast does not necessarily have to be removed during treatment, urging women to seek early medical attention rather than delay reporting symptoms.

Dr. Bosompem made this known in an interview with Radio Link’s Nana Kwadwo Adu when he joined the Ghana Nuts Company and Obapack Company to organise a free breast cancer screening exercise and awareness talk for their staff and students from selected Senior High Schools in Techiman as part of activities to mark Pink October.

Dr. Bosompem expressed concern that an estimated 2,000 out of the 5,000 people diagnosed with breast cancer in Ghana die annually, largely due to late reporting and delays in seeking medical attention.

For their part, Mr. Eric Agyei, General Manager in charge of Technical Operations at Ghana Nuts Company Ltd., and Mrs. Christiana Kyeraa Boadu, Supervising Officer for Energy Monitoring and Evaluation said the donation of medical equipment to selected hospitals, together with the free breast cancer screening and health education exercise, formed part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives.

Adding their voices, Mr. Michael Ohemeng a.k.a. Sir Mike, Manager in charge of Safety, Health and Environment and Mr. B. Y. E. Agyei, Head of Operations for Haulage at Ghana Nuts Company Ltd.

noted that the company was committed to sustaining such interventions annually, although the nature of the support may vary from year to year, as part of efforts to give back to society and support community health.

Some staff of Ghana Nuts Company Ltd., Obapack Company Ltd. and other women who benefited from the free breast cancer screening and awareness talk also shared their experiences with the Media and expressed appreciation to the companies and medical team for the initiative.
