Nana Kweku Bonsam Blames Cecilia Dapaah For Accra Floods, Says Sanitation Funds Were Misused.
Popular traditional priest and public figure Nana Kweku Bonsam has blamed former Sanitation Minister Cecilia Dapaah for Accra’s persistent flooding, alleging that funds meant for sanitation and drainage maintenance were not properly used.
Speaking during a Let Love Lead NGO clean-up exercise from Maamobi Gutter to Nima Paloma on Saturday, Nana Kweku Bonsam commended organizers for mobilizing residents and stakeholders to promote environmental cleanliness.
According to him, the initiative underscores the importance of sanitation and community participation in preventing floods and other environmental problems.
He urged Ghanaians to act responsibly and help keep their surroundings clean.
“We should not behave like Cecilia Dapaah after spending our money meant for cleaning Accra. She is part of this flooding we are seeing today,” Nana Kweku Bonsam alleged while addressing participants.
His comments come amid renewed public debate on sanitation and flood prevention after recent heavy rains submerged several parts of Accra.
The traditional priest also encouraged residents in flood-prone communities to stop dumping refuse into drains and gutters, stressing that poor sanitation remains one of the major causes of flooding in the capital.
The clean-up, organized by Let Love Lead NGO, brought together community members, government officials, traditional leaders and public figures to raise awareness on sanitation and environmental responsibility.
The event also featured relief items and cash donations presented to victims of the June 3, 2015 disaster, with beneficiaries expressing gratitude to the organizers for the support.
