Health Minister Charges MMDCEs to Champion Free Primary Health Care Programme

The Minister for Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has called on Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives in the Central Region to take full ownership of the government’s Free Primary Healthcare Programme to ensure its successful implementation.

Speaking at the official launch of the initiative, the Minister described the programme as a flagship government policy aimed at improving access to quality healthcare, especially for people in underserved communities.

He further urged citizens to embrace the programme and appealed to Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives to educate residents on the benefits of the initiative and other government interventions.

The Health Minister also
explained that under the Free Primary Healthcare Programme, Ghanaians will receive free diagnosis and treatment for common illnesses including malaria, diarrhoea, anaemia, hypertension and respiratory infections, among others.

He assured the public that the government has provided the necessary logistics, medical equipment and healthcare personnel to support the programme, which will be delivered through CHPS compounds, health centres, polyclinics and other primary healthcare facilities across the country.

Hon. Akandoh said the initiative is expected to reduce the financial burden on families while improving health outcomes across the country.

The launch brought together health officials, traditional leaders, MMDCEs and key stakeholders in the health sector, who pledged their support to ensure the successful implementation of the Free Primary Healthcare Programme in the Central Region.
