Asokwa NPP Chair Rev. Benjamin Fosu Nkromah Files for Third Term, Says Party Needs “Experienced Leadership” to Recove
KUMASI, Ashanti Region — Political activity in Asokwa Constituency is intensifying as key executives of the New Patriotic Party have picked and submitted nomination forms for the party’s upcoming internal elections.
Constituency Chairman Rev. Benjamin Fosu Nkromah set the pace on Tuesday, 24th June, when he submitted his forms to contest the chairmanship position for a third term.
His submission was witnessed by a number of party faithful and delegates at the constituency office.
Addressing delegates after filing, the Rev. Minster and incumbent chairman who is seeking another term did not mince words about the NPP’s current state.
He described the party as being in a “critical condition” and argued that only experienced leaders with strong networks, links, and resources can rebuild its strength ahead of the 2028 general elections.
According to him, Asokwa’s role as a stronghold in the Ashanti Region must be protected, and that requires steady leadership that understands the grassroots and can mobilize support.
The chairman said he is well-qualified for the task and ready to lead the constituency through what he called a rebuilding phase.
He urged delegates to base their decision on performance and consistency rather than experiment with new leadership at a delicate time.
“I am well-qualified for this task and ready to lead. Trust my track record and support me to continue leading the constituency and the party as a whole,” Rev. Nkrumah stated.
He called on delegates to stand with him and give him the mandate for a second term to help maintain the dignity and influence of Asokwa Constituency within the Ashanti Region and the NPP at large.
The filing of nomination forms marks the official start of contestation for constituency executive positions.
More executives are expected to pick and submit their forms in the coming days as the nomination window remains open.
The internal elections are expected to reshape the constituency’s leadership structure and set the direction for NPP’s mobilization efforts in Asokwa ahead of 2028.
Delegates will ultimately decide whether to retain Rev. Nkrumah for a third term or opt for a change.
Asokwa is considered one of the NPP’s key seats in the Ashanti region being the party’s stronghold.
The outcome of its internal polls is often watched closely because of the constituency’s voting strength and influence on regional party dynamics.
