World Vision Launches Nutrition-Focused Enterprise in Sekyere East

World Vision Ghana has inaugurated a state-of-the-art micro food processing centre at Ahwerewa in the Sekyere East District of the Ashanti Region as part of efforts to tackle child malnutrition and promote economic empowerment among women.

The initiative, officially commissioned on Wednesday, May 13, is expected to enhance access to nutritious food for children while simultaneously creating sustainable employment opportunities for women within the community.

The newly established facility will focus on the production of honey-based nutritional snacks designed to support the healthy growth and development of children, particularly those in vulnerable households.

Addressing stakeholders, traditional authorities and residents during the commissioning ceremony, the Southern Regional Operations Manager of World Vision Ghana, Irving Aboagye, described the project as a transformative intervention aimed at improving the socio-economic wellbeing of families in the district.

According to him, the project aligns with World Vision Ghana’s broader vision of safeguarding the welfare of children through practical and community-driven development initiatives.

Mr. Aboagye disclosed that thirty women have already been employed to work at the processing centre, adding that the initiative would provide beneficiaries with a stable source of income while equipping them with valuable skills in food processing and entrepreneurship.

He explained that empowering women economically has a direct positive impact on household welfare, particularly in improving nutrition and educational outcomes for children.

“This intervention is not only about food production but about creating opportunities that will strengthen families and improve the quality of life for children and women in the community,” he stated.

He further noted that the establishment of the centre demonstrates World Vision Ghana’s commitment to promoting sustainable community development through innovative livelihood programmes.

The District Chief Executive for Sekyere East, Ibrahim Adams, praised World Vision Ghana for the intervention, describing it as timely and beneficial to the district’s development agenda.

He assured management of the organisation that the District Assembly would collaborate with relevant stakeholders to ensure the sustainability and long-term success of the project.

Mr. Adams also appealed to traditional leaders and residents of Ahwerewa to take collective ownership of the facility and protect it to ensure that future generations continue to benefit from the initiative.

Some community members who attended the event expressed optimism that the project would help reduce unemployment among women while improving child nutrition within the area.

The establishment of the food processing centre is expected to contribute significantly to local economic growth and reinforce efforts aimed at addressing malnutrition and poverty in the Sekyere East District.
