Machete Fight Erupts in Bonkame, Leaves Several Injured

BONKAME, Ghana— Residents of Bonkame in the Fanteakwa South District of Ghana’s Eastern Region are living in fear after a violent machete fight broke out on May 10, 2026, leaving several people injured.

The clash occurred in the afternoon, according to eyewitness accounts, and quickly escalated before bystanders could intervene.

Victims sustained deep cuts and were rushed to Hawa Memorial Saviour Hospital in Akyem Osiem for emergency treatment. Hospital staff confirmed that multiple patients were admitted, though the exact number of injured has not been officially released.

The Ghana Police Service has launched an investigation into the incident. Officers were deployed to the area shortly after the fight to restore calm and begin collecting statements from witnesses. No arrests have been announced as of publication.

Oyerepa TV/FM Correspondent George Botha, who reported from the scene, said tension remains high in Bonkame as residents worry about a possible reprisal.

The attack has renewed concerns about violence and public safety in Bonkame and surrounding communities in Fanteakwa South.

Local leaders say disputes that escalate into machete violence have become too frequent, and are calling for increased police presence and community mediation efforts.

“This incident highlights concerns about violence and safety in the area,” a community spokesperson noted. “People should be able to go about their daily lives without fear of being attacked in broad daylight.”

Police say investigations are ongoing and have urged anyone with information to come forward. The Fanteakwa South District Assembly has not yet issued an official statement.

This is a developing story. Updates will be added as more information becomes available
