Daughters of Charity Celebrate Milestone Anniversaries in Kumasi on Congregation’s Foundation Day

 

In a poignant coincidence, the St. Louise de Marillac Community of the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul in Kumasi, Ghana, celebrated the milestone anniversaries of Sr. Olivia Umoh and Sr. Gertrude Gima on November 29, 2025 – the official foundation day of the Daughters of Charity.

Sr. Olivia Umoh marked 40 years of dedicated service, while Sr. Gertrude Gima celebrated 25 years in the Company of the Daughters of Charity.

The celebration, themed “One Mission, Many Journeys: Living the Gospel Among the Poor,” took place at 9:30 am GMT at the St. Louise de Marillac Community in Appiadu, Kumasi.November 29, 2025, also marked 392 years since the founding of the Daughters of Charity by St. Vincent de Paul and St. Louise de Marillac in France in 1633.

Today, the international congregation of Catholic sisters comprises over 13,000 sisters serving in 90 countries.

Their ministries focus on serving the poorest of the poor, including persons with disabilities, migrants, refugees, those affected by leprosy, children in street situations, and the marginalized.

The Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul, Province of Nigeria, extended an invitation to join in celebrating the milestone anniversaries of these dedicated sisters, highlighting their commitment to charity and living out Christ’s mission in the community.
