Breaking News: NAIMOS Taskforce Member Loses Life in Fatal Accident

 

The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has announced the death of a team member from the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) in a tragic motor accident near the Obuasi Airport area on Wednesday, November 19, 2025.

The team of five was on a mission to curb illegal mining activities in the region when the incident occurred.

The accident happened while the team was undertaking a major anti-galamsey operation.

Unfortunately, one member of the taskforce died, while four others sustained serious injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment. According to eyewitnesses, the vehicle somersaulted multiple times on the stretch between the Anyankyerim community and Airport Road.

The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has launched a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident to determine its cause and ensure accountability.

The Minister extended condolences to the family of the deceased and wished the injured team members a speedy recovery .

The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources released a statement expressing deep sorrow over the loss of their team member.

“The Minister extends his profound sympathies to the family of our fallen colleague and conveys his heartfelt wishes for a swift recovery to the injured team members. We remain steadfast in our commitment to safeguarding the welfare of all frontline personnel and will ensure they receive the utmost support and care”.

The Ministry has assured that all necessary measures are being taken to provide assistance and clarity regarding the incident. The affected personnel will receive full support throughout their treatment and rehabilitation .

This incident highlights the risks faced by frontline personnel in the fight against illegal mining. The Ministry’s commitment to their safety and welfare remains unwavering.
