C/R: Four Killed, 10 Seriously Injured In Chieftaincy Dispute at Agona Abodom.
Four people have been killed and 10 others seriously injured following a violent clash allegedly involving land guards and residents of Agona Abodom during this year’s Akwambo Festival.
The incident occurred in Agona Abodom, located in the Agona West Municipality of the Central Region.According to reports, two vehicles and several properties were vandalised, including tables and chairs at the chief’s palace.
Agona Abodom, primarily a farming community, has been embroiled in a chieftaincy dispute for the past 45 years. The situation appeared to have calmed earlier this year with the installation of Nana Osamdade Obrempong XI as chief. However, tensions seem to have resurfaced.
Information gathered by Nana Ansah of Oyerepa News suggests that residents and traditional leaders (Nananom) were peacefully celebrating the festival when a rival faction allegedly hired land guards to disrupt the event, resulting in the deadly confrontation.
In an interview, eyewitness Kwame Arhin confirmed that three individuals had lost their lives and many others were in critical condition. Some residents say they are now living in fear and have appealed for military and police protection to restore peace and security in the area.
Meanwhile, the Assembly Member for the Agona Abodom Electoral Area, Alex Donkor, has described the situation as dire and is calling for an urgent deployment of more security personnel to prevent further violence.
