Adumasa Residents Call for Justice Over Arrest of Dr. Cosmas Yaw Asante Amid Chieftaincy Dispute

The people of Adumasa in the Ashanti Region have expressed deep concern over the arrest of Dr. Cosmas Yaw Asante, which they say is linked to the protracted chieftaincy dispute in the community.

In a press statement issued by concerned residents of the town, they described the development as troubling and called for urgent intervention from traditional and state authorities.

According to the statement, the residents are disappointed by the circumstances surrounding the arrest, which they allege was ordered by the Juaben Manhene, Nana Otuo Serebour.

The group has therefore called on the appropriate security agencies to investigate the circumstances of Dr. Asante’s arrest, protect his fundamental human rights, and ensure his immediate release if there is no lawful basis for his continued detention.

“We believe that justice, fairness, and respect for the rule of law must prevail in all matters affecting our community,” the statement said.

The residents further appealed to the appropriate traditional authorities to examine the competing claims to the Adumasa stool and ensure that the matter is resolved in accordance with established customs, traditions, and applicable laws.

They also appealed directly to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, to intervene and investigate the circumstances surrounding the competing claims to the stool to help ensure a peaceful and transparent resolution.

“We believe that timely, impartial intervention is necessary to help restore peace, protect our traditional heritage, and resolve the dispute fairly,” the statement added.

The people of Adumasa further appealed to the Minister for the Interior and the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to intervene as a matter of urgency before the situation deteriorates further.

The statement emphasized that their appeal is not intended to promote hostility or make unsupported accusations against any individual, but rather to seek clarity, fairness, and respect for their traditions.

“The people of Adumasa are calling for justice, fairness, and respect for their traditional institution. We do not want this matter to escalate into further tension or division

. We seek a peaceful resolution that respects our customs,” the statement concluded.
