A 24-year-old apprentice welder has been taken into police custody at Nkwatia in the Kwahu East District of the Eastern Region after allegedly attempting to kill his younger brother.
According to reports, the incident occurred on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, in a forested area near the community, where residents later intervened following distress calls.
An eyewitness, Bright Osarfo, told Adom TV on June 25, 2026, that he and several others rushed to the scene after hearing cries for help coming from the forest in the evening.
He explained that the group initially used torchlights to search the area before proceeding carefully after hearing suspicious movements deeper inside the forest.
“We later switched off the torchlight and could hear some sounds. We saw the suspect with his brother, who was covered in blood stains. We rescued the victim and sent him to the police station,” he recounted.
The victim, the suspect’s younger brother, reportedly sustained severe injuries and was immediately taken for medical attention.
The suspect, identified only as Kwadwo, was arrested at the scene and is currently assisting police with investigations into the incident.
The Unit Committee Member for the area, Esther Kissiwaa, confirmed that tensions escalated after the arrest, as some residents attempted to attack the suspect in anger.
“An enraged crowd tried to assault him after he was arrested, but police quickly intervened to prevent mob action,” she said.
She added that two young men were injured during the chaos that followed and were also taken to hospital for treatment.
Police say investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances that led to the alleged attack.
