39-year-old Footballer Remanded Over Suspected Drug Possession

The Nsuta Circuit Court in the Sekyere Central District of the Ashanti Region has remanded a 39-year-old footballer into police custody for suspected narcotics possession.

The accused, Sarfo Barfi, also known as Ayaala, a resident of Mampong-Zongo, appeared before the court presided over by His Lordship Simon Nketiah Gagah on Friday, August 28, 2026.

Presenting the facts of the case, Chief Inspector C.K. Gyesi told the court that the complainant, Lance Corporal Joseph Appiah of the Regional CID, Mampong, was at the Mampong Taxi Station at about 6:15 p.m. on August 26, 2026, when he observed the accused scowling at him.

The officer approached him on suspicion, during which several of the accused person’s companions fled the scene, while Barfi remained.

According to the prosecution, a search conducted on the spot led to the retrieval of one wrap of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, concealed in an earpod case, and five tablets of Diazepam (D10) found in his pocket.

In his cautioned statement to the police, Barfi admitted the offence, indicating that he had purchased the dried leaves for personal use.

The court has ordered the prosecution to submit the seized exhibits to the Forensic Laboratory for analysis and to trace and arrest the supplier of the suspected narcotics.

Sarfo Barfi has been remanded in police custody. The case has been adjourned to Friday, September 4, 2026, to await the Forensic Laboratory report.
