Water, Roads and Electricity Top Dormaa West’s Development Challenges – DCE

DCE says familiarization tour has exposed critical needs; cites 41 boreholes drilled, ongoing Kwakuanya telecom project and youth recruitment

NKRANKWANTA –The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Dormaa West, Hon. Stephen Azorba Awuni, says inadequate access to potable water, poor road networks and lack of electricity extension remain the top development challenges confronting residents of the district.

According to him, a recent familiarization tour of communities in the district revealed that the challenges are largely similar across the various areas visited, with water, roads and electricity emerging as the most pressing concerns for residents.

Hon. Awuni disclosed that although his administration has provided 41 boreholes within its one year and four months in office, water supply continues to be a challenge in some parts of the district.

On telecommunications, the DCE said work is currently ongoing on the Kwakuanya network project. He assured residents that workers are on site and the project is expected to be completed soon to improve connectivity in the area.

He noted that the tour has been revealing and will guide the Assembly to make prudent efforts to address the identified challenges.

The DCE added that the familiarization tour also provided an opportunity for residents to appreciate the Assembly and government for developmental achievements chalked within his first year and four months in office.

Hon. Azorba Awuni expressed gratitude to the people of Dormaa West for their support and for acknowledging both completed and ongoing development projects being executed across the district by the Assembly.

Touching on youth development, the DCE urged the youth of Dormaa West to take advantage of available employment and skills-development opportunities.

He stressed the need for young people to regularly check credible online platforms for job openings.

He cited the ongoing recruitment of teachers and nurses, apprenticeship programmes and coding programmes as key opportunities available to the youth.

He however expressed concern over low participation in the coding initiative in the district.

Hon. Awuni further disclosed that 20 youth from Dormaa West have been recruited into the various security services and are currently undergoing training.
