NPP accuses Bench of Political Bias, demands CJ intervene
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has called on the Chief Justice to investigate what it describes as a “clear case of apparent political bias on the bench” and to immediately review a remand order it says was perversely issued.
Addressing a press conference in Accra, NPP National Organizer Henry Nana Boakye, popularly known as Nana B, accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government of weaponizing state institutions to harass political opponents.
“If the NDC doesn’t want peace to govern, we will not give them peace to govern. If this undue harassment and weaponization of state institutions against political opponents hasn’t stopped, the NDC will not have peace,” Nana Boakye warned.
He compared the current administration to the previous government, saying: “If you look at developments under the NDC government, former President Nana Akufo-Addo and his Vice, Dr. Bawumia, are saints.”
Nana Boakye also accused the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) of carrying out an “unlawful invasion” of the residence of a party elder on Tuesday. He alleged EOCO operatives entered the home without a warrant and without the occupant’s knowledge.
He alleged that EOCO has now become a conveyor belt for political hatchet jobs,” he said. “The NDC government has turned a state institution into an opposition hunting ground that answers not to law but to political masters.”
The NPP further raised concerns over what it called the growing use of state security apparatus to harass and silence dissenting views under the NDC administration. The party said the trend raises “serious questions about the state of free speech and civil liberties in the country.”
The NPP is demanding an immediate review of the remand order in question and a full probe by the Chief Justice into alleged political bias within the judiciary.
