Over 54,000 BECE Graduates Still Unplaced – Hon. Dr. Fred Kyei Asamoah Demands Urgent Government Action

Offinso North MP says no qualified child must be left behind

The Member of Parliament for Offinso North, Hon. Dr. Fred Kyei Asamoah, has expressed grave concern over the ongoing Senior High School placement crisis that has left more than 54,000 qualified BECE graduates without schools.

Speaking on television, the MP disclosed that the situation has plunged thousands of parents and guardians into stress, anxiety and unexpected financial burden.

Hon. Dr. Asamoah, who is an educationist and former Director-General of the Commission for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (CTVET), noted that education remains the bedrock of national development and insisted that no Ghanaian child who has qualified should be left behind because of systemic failures.

According to data from the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) Secretariat, about 565,000 out of the nearly 620,000 candidates who sat for the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination met the placement requirements, leaving close to 55,000 outside the process due to the policy requiring a pass in both English Language and Mathematics.

In light of this, Hon. Dr. Asamoah is calling on the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service to urgently address the bottlenecks in the placement system, expand access and infrastructure to absorb more students, and provide clear and timely communication to affected families.

The Offinso North legislator reaffirmed his commitment to championing equitable, accessible and quality education for all Ghanaian children, including those in the Offinso North District.

He has also appealed to parents to remain calm, assuring them that he and other well-meaning stakeholders are actively engaging the relevant authorities to ensure a swift resolution to the crisis.
